The carbon dioxide emissions from watching all of these videos (7 hours) are 5.17 kilos so please watch sparingly. It is preferable to read the website rather than watch all of them. However, if these videos motivate you to make changes to your lifestyle, then the carbon emissions are well spent.

Global Warming is such a simple problem to understand that kids do a better job at getting it than their parents. This short film is fascinating as it shows kids who are trying to explain to us that we need to do something about this. It shows solutions so simple just anyone could understand. It makes you wonder: why is all of this not already being done on a massive scale and why are people so resistant to the idea of being clean? Are we all pigs without realizing it?

Home

It took $10 million to make home. This is the first environmental film ever to be released worldwide free for everyone to see. This film is the career cornerstone of a man who’s helicopter photographs of the world are famous worldwide. It shows our Planet from the sky and it has a message for us: we might all prefer to deny the truth but it is there visible, for everyone to be seen and if nothing is done to change our way of life, all this beauty will be lost and us with it.

The Planet Documentary

We never get a chance in our daily lives to appreciate what is happening to our one and only home because it’s so big. This is a fantastic documentary on our Planet, it helps us to understand what it is happening to it, what our impact on it is and how our every day actions are having a global impact. The Planet is an eye opening documentary that shows us what the issues are and the impact of our civilization on the ecosystems.

The Big Chill Documentary

A BBC documentary showing that our country is not going to be like St Tropez in a globally warmed world. Far worst; the climate could be more akin to Siberia with winters at minus 22 degrees. Watch this documentary to understand what a shutdown of the Gulf Stream current could do to us. The flow of water from the return leg has fallen by a further 10% since this documentary was made.

Global Dimming Documentary

Global what? Worldwide pollution is preventing sunlight from reaching the ground. Global dimming is a scientific fact. It has been measured worldwide. In many parts of the world, the amount of sunlight reaching the ground is up to 30% lower than it was just a few decades ago: 22% drop in Israel, 9% in Antarctica, 10% in the US, 30% in Russia and 16% in the UK. Why isn’t the Earth cooler then? The answer is that whilst the earth is cooling as a result of the dimming, it is warming as a result of enhanced greenhouse effect with the latter having the upper hand as temperatures have increased.

Note: some of the quotes in this documentary are incorrect for instance methane does not have 8 times the greenhouse effect of CO2, it has 62 times the global warming effect of CO2 for 20 years and 21 times that effect over 100 years.

After 2 degrees, the global warming becomes unstoppable, you needn’t wait for 10 degrees.
At present, the IPCC don’t factor global dimming into their models. It is to be expected that as time goes by, their temperature forecasts for the end of the century will rise from 6 to 10 degrees as a worst case scenario as all the climate models taking into account positive feedbacks have to be re-written to take into account global dimming. This also means that we need to cut down our carbon emissions much faster than we thought previously.

SHORT FILMS

The Story of Stuff

Watch this film.

Global Warning narrated by Leonardo di Caprio

4 minutes in which to explain the biggest environmental problems we face. Very good flick.

Blue Man Group On Global Warming (Art)

This is entertaining. All you need to hear about global warming in less than 2 minutes.

The Permian mass extinction in 10 minutes

95% of all life on Earth died in the Permian mass extinction. We’re currently in the middle of a mass extinction of wildlife by mankind. The Permian mass extinction gives us a glimpse of the past to understand the present. Like now, it was related to a massive increase in CO2 and methane levels which generated a runaway, domino effect that changed ecosystems drastically and triggered the release of hidden massive reserves as methane, a threat we face today. Unlike now, it occurred over 40,000 years. So large is the scale of our current activity that something similar could happen in just 100 years.

The greenhouse effect and global warming in 10 minutes

This video was made by a teenager and it is one of the best, if not the best video available online that explains the greenhouse effect, how our planet works and what we can do to cut down our emissions. It does so with beautiful animations and wonderful clarity. You will be amazed at the quality of graphic and content of this video.

World population

One of the reasons we all need to reduce our emissions is due to the massive increase in world population. This video shows how population has increased over the past 2000 years. It’s eye opening to see how quickly it’s increased in the past century.

Climate change explained in 10 minutes

A change of one degree in global temperatures results in a change of 12 degrees at the poles. The poles give us an advance warning of what is going to happen to the world if we don’t act fast enough.

Arctic sea ice

In 2007, Arctic summer sea ice took a huge dive. This had the entire scientific community worried about the speed at which global warming could occur. These 2 videos show shocking pictures of the rate at which the North Pole has been melting since the end of the 70s and briefly discusses the implications.

David Attenborough takes a stance on Global Warming

Is global warming man made? Yes, says David Attenborough in 2 minutes, he explains why.

Sea level rise animation in Google Earth

Ever wondered what the world will look like once the ice poles melt? Watch this video to find out.

INTERVIEWS, DEBATES, LECTURES

The Great Global Warming Swindle ABC Debates (Debate)

This is a very interesting debate about the film that was aired on Channel 4 and viewed by 2.5 million people.  The Global Warming Swindle features “scientists” saying that global warming is still open for debate. This documentary is debated by scientists who think the evidence is overwhelming and some who don’t. It’s a fantastic debate because it’s very heated and it shows pertinent views on both sides. It exposes the human interpretation of a life threatening phenomena amongst intellectuals. Great stuff!!!

Too little too late? (Debate)

This is a very interesting panel featuring some optimists, some pessimists and some very prominent environmental figures in particular James Lovelock and David Attenborough.

Arithmetic, Population and Energy (Lecture)

This video requires your patience. The professor spends time explaining the concepts he bases his argument on before moving on to the real arguments. This lecture will send shivers up your back as the exponential function just cannot be argued with. Be patient, it’s worth it.

An interview with Mark Lynas

Mark Lynas wrote the best book ever on Global Warming: Six Degrees. He’s a very interesting guy to listen to. His book is un-put-down-able.

The American denial of global warming (Lecture)

This documentary gives an insight into the strategies that are still being used in the tabloid press in the UK. It does so by looking at the worst place on Earth for the spinning of the Global Warming story: America. Probably, the second worst is Australia, followed closely by the UK. The lecture explains the scientific case and the strategies employed by some corporations to create doubt. It’s very interesting stuff.
